This hike takes you to the summits of Viştea Mare and Moldoveanu, the third and first highest peaks in Romania, respectively. Starting from the Cabana Podragu (mountain chalet) on the shores of Podragu Lake ascend to the Şaua Podragului (pass) from where the trail begins a thrilling "skywalk" along the main ridge of the Făgăraş Mountains. The trail undulates along the ridge crest before making a stiff ascent to the summit of Viştea Mare. From here, the summit of Moldoveanu is reached by a short spur trail. Retrace your steps to return to Cabana Podragu.

Follow Option 1 to the summit of Moldoveanu and retrace your steps to the top of Viştea Mare peak. From this point descend quickly to the east along the Făgăraş main ridge to reach the pass of Portiţa Viştei. From here, the trail continues eastward, successively rising and falling as it proceeds along the main ridge crest. Continue to the pass of Fereastra Mică a Sāmbătei from where you retrace your steps to the Cabana Podragu. The views are fabulous and far-ranging all along the ridge so you don't even have to go as far as Fereastra Mică a Sāmbătei to have a never-to-be-forgotten day in the high Făgăraş!
