More Destinations

Over the years, Mountain Hiking Holidays has developed and operated mountain hiking trips to a variety of destinations either as scheduled departures or custom-designed itineraries for groups. Not all the trips that we've developed are offered every year. Here, you'll find a sampling of trips from past years. Please let us know if you have a specific interest in any of them. We would love the opportunity to help make your travel dreams a reality!

Note that each of the following trips (or modifications thereof) may be booked as a private departure for your group of friends, family or colleagues.

Maritime Alps of France and Italy. Explore the Alps where they meet the Mediterranean! Here you'll find high country landscapes as fine as anywhere in the Alps!
Maritime Alps Slide Show
Romania. Explore the high Carpathians of central Romania also known as the Transylvanian Alps or "Carpaţii Meridionali" in Romanian. Extending across central Romania this 225 mile-long range consists of several mountain groups each with its own distinctive landscapes and hiking opportunities.

New Zealand. New Zealand (Aotearoa, or "Land of the Long White Cloud" in the language of the native Maori) has long been a "dream destination" for hikers and lovers of wild landscapes. Our New Zealand adventure is designed specifically to immerse you in the finest highland landscapes New Zealand has to offer!

Ireland. Discover the beauty of western Ireland on foot! Journey through the lake and woodland landscape of the Killarney National Park, and sample the trails of the glacially sculpted MacGillicuddy’s Reeks, a mountain range that contains Ireland’s tallest peak, Carrauntuohill. Hike amidst the quintessential Irish landscape of patchworked fields on the Dingle Peninsula, marvel at the limestone expanses of the Burren, explore the Aran Islands and ramble among the high peaks of Connemara.
Madeira and the Azores. Anchored in the Atlantic Ocean west of the African coast, the temperate islands of Madeira and the Azores boast some of Portugal's most dramatic mountains. On Madeira, an extensive network of paths along the levadas makes the windswept highlands, plunging cliffs, and mossy laurisilva forests accessible to hikers. In the Azores, crater lakes, towering sea cliffs, hydrangea hedgerows, laurel forests and Portugal's highest mountain combine in an enchanting landscape!
Carpathian Mountains (Hungary, Slovakia, Poland). Journey across the breadth of the Carpathian mountain range from the rolling, forested Bukk Mountains of northern Hungary to the compact mass of soaring, glacier-carved crags that comprise the Tatra Mountains on the Slovak-Polish frontier.
Picos de Europa of Northern Spain. Explore the Cantabrian Mountains (Cordillera Cantábrica) from the Basque mountains of Anboto and Gorbeia in the east to the Picos de Europa, a cluster of high limestone peaks straddling the border between the provinces of Cantabria and Asturias.
Canadian Rockies. Hike the classic trails of Banff and Yoho National Parks. Experience flower-filled meadows, alpine lakes, and views of glaciers and the high, sculpted peaks that make this area an alpine wonderland!
Columbia River Gorge. Hike the trails of the Columbia River Gorge, a spectacular river canyon that slices through the Cascade Mountains. Trails lead up narrow stream gorges, countless waterfalls plunge over basalt cliffs, and dense forests of Douglas fir, western hemlock and big-leaf maple blanket hillsides and valleys.
Kyushu & Yakushima: Hiking Japan's Southern Islands. Explore the hiking trails of Japan's southern islands of Kyushu and Yakushima. Highlights include hikes in the Aso-Kuju National Park, the Kirishima Volcanic Highlands and the UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site of Yakushima, an island known for its ancient cedar forests and granite peaks.
Nicaragua Volcano Challenge. Climb five volcanoes in five days! Over the course of the trip, attempt the summits of five active volcanoes that are part of Nicaragua's Maribios volcanic chain. Ready for the challenge?
Peru Trekking: Ausangate & Machu Picchu. A classic trek in the Peruvian Andes around the 20,945-foot peak of Ausangate. Fully supported six-day trek in the Cordillera Vilcanota followed by a visit to Machu Picchu.
